NALF, BEEF to Co-Host CyberCampfire Producer-Outreach Webcasts

As a service to all cattle producers, the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) and BEEF magazine will co-host two free CyberCampfire webcasts on DVAuction.com in December. Both begin at 7 p.m. MST.

In “Crossbreeding Strategies” on Dec. 11, Kent Andersen, Ph.D., and Frank Padilla from NALF will lead a practical discussion about making the most of breed complementarity and heterosis (hybrid vigor) without mongrelizing your cow herd to hit mainstream carcass targets. Simple, sensible, sustainable crossbreeding with a focus on uniformity, consistency and reliability can create productive, long-lasting replacement females and efficiently produce high-yielding, high-quality, value-added carcasses.

In “Bull-Buying Strategies” on Dec. 18, Alan Sears from Five Star Cattle Systems – the topic sponsor – will join Andersen and Padilla to lead a thought-provoking discussion about the key factors that should drive most bull-buying decisions. Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your cow herd, identifying the target markets for your feeder calves and finished cattle, and evaluating your feed and management resources will help you make safer, information-backed, commonsense bull-buying decisions.

Participation in an interactive CyberCampfire producer-outreach webcast requires registration with DVAuction.com beforehand. When it is time for a webcast, registered site users simply return to the DVAuction home page and click the “View” button next to “North American Limousin Foundation” under “Today’s Events.” There also will be a link on the NALF home page (www.nalf.org).

The “Programs” section of the NALF Web site includes an archive of the visuals, audio and supplemental materials from past webcasts.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services – including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires – to nearly 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim‑Flex® hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
