Limousin cattle on display at 2017 National Western Stock Show

Limousin and Lim-Flex breeders were under the bright lights of the Stadium Arena at the National Western Stock Show to showcase their genetics. The Level 1 Medal of Excellence Limousin Show was held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Denver. Dan Shike, Urbana, Ill., evaluated the 62 females and 20 bulls.

The grand champion Limousin female was Riverstone Charmed exhibited by Madison Ratliff, Westphalia, Kan. She is a January 31, 2015, 92 percent Limousin female sired by TMCK Durham Wheat 6030X. This female was first named Division V champion. Riverstone Charmed also won the NWSS Junior Limousin Show the previous day.

Jaden Clark Linthicum, Welch, Okla., exhibited the reserve champion Limousin female. JCL Candy Girl LNLM 5514C is a May 3, 2015, 50% Lim-Flex heifer sired by CALO Brickyard 902W. This heifer came from Division IV.

In the bull show, TASF Crown Royal 960C ET was named grand champion Limousin Bull. He is an April 24, 2015, 100 percent Limousin bull sired by DHVO Deuce 132. This bull was exhibited by JCL Land & Cattle and Thomas & Son Farms, Welch, Okla., and was first name Division V champion.

The reserve champion Limousin bull was Schilling’s Ditka, a February 17, 2016 son of EXAR Blue Chip 1877B. This 43 percent Lim-Flex bull came from Division II and was exhibited by Clay Schilling, Edson, Kan.

At the conclusion of the show, the premier breeder award went to JCL Land & Cattle, Welch, Okla. Premier exhibitor was awarded to Bruce L. Lawrence, Anton, Texas.

During the week on NWSS, exhibitors nominate candidates and vote for the herdsman of the year award. The 2017 Limousin herdsman winner was Cori Harrison-Malone.
