Limousin Juniors Compete in National Showmanship Contest

Winning the showmanship contest at a national level junior show is one of the highlights on any junior member’s career. Four age divisions of members from the North American Limousin Junior Association competed in the national Limousin showmanship contest on Thursday, July 6, 2017. The contest was held during the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress, July 1-7 in Grand Island, Neb.

The wife and husband duo of Cassie and Ramsey Johnson, Cushing, Iowa, served as judges for the contest. Cassie is a former member of NALJA and served on the junior Limousin board of directors. She commented on what an honor it was for her to come back to the Limousin show to judge showmanship, one of her favorite events to win as a junior member.

The top ten showpersons from each age division were selected.

In the novice division, ages five to nine, champion showman was Kinnick Paulsen, Preston, Iowa. Rounding out the top ten include: Tucker Parkinson, Levelland, Texas, second; Jake Ozburn, Unionville, Tenn., third; Tayhlor Elmore, Hominy, Okla., fourth; Siddalee Portwood, Versailles, Ky., fifth; Kinley Collum, Guthrie, Okla., sixth, Memphis Peterson, Pukwana, S.D., seventh, Bentley London, Collinsville, Texas, eighth; Rowdy Berry, Port Orchard, Wash., ninth; and Mason Shipman, Treynor, Iowa, tenth.

The junior division consists of members ages ten to 13. Champion showperson was Ryleigh Morris, Ash Grove, Mo. The top ten placings are as follows: Ben Spencer, Gibbon, Neb., second; Carter Hubbard, Miami, Okla., third; Ali Getz, Jay, Okla.; fourth; Jaden Linthicum, Welch, Okla., fifth; Lana Sherry, Yukon, Okla., sixth; Garrett Walden, Tonganoxie, Kan., seventh; Makayla Massey, London, Ky., eighth; Peyton Collum, Guthrie, Okla., ninth; Kendall Spriggs, Afton, Okla., tenth.

Shelby hubbard, Miami, Okla., was the grand champion intermediate showperson, an age division consisting of youth ages 14 to 16. The top ten in the intermediate division include: Karsyn Youngblood, Columbus, Kan., second; Logan Chachere, Dayton, Texas, third; Julia Weaber, Harrodsburg, Ky., fourth; Delaney Peterson, Chamberlain, S.D., fifth; Drake Wood, Lee’s Summit, Mo., sixth; Colton Barton, Jarrell, Texas, seventh; Tyler Speck, Chehalis, Wash., eighth; Luke Stirn, West Harrison, Ind., ninth; Collin Ochsner, Kersey, Colo., tenth.

In the final division, seniors ranging in age from 17 to 21, grand champion senior showperson went to Tanner Walden, Tonganoxie, Kan. The other members who were named to the top ten and not placed in any order due to the caliber of their showing skills include: Maycee Ratliff, Westphalia, Kan.; Spencer Wilder, Snook, Texas; Kenneth Campbell, Tonganoxie, Kan.; Madison Ratliff, Westphalia, Kan.; Will Blaydes, Midway, Ky.; Dominic Ruppert, Witt, Ill.; Callie Hicks, Midway, Ky.; Austin Speck, Chehalis, Wash.; Layton Schur, Plainview, Texas.
