Pen and Carload Show Caps off NWSS Limousin activities

The Limousin and Lim-Flex Pen and Carload Show capped off the Limousin activities at the 2018 National Western Stock Show. This year’s show saw 17 pens and five carloads exhibited on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Jonathan Perry, Fayetteville, Tenn., Mark Hoge, Good Hope, Ill., and Justin Gleghorn, Amarillo, Texas, teamed up to evaluate the bulls. 

Coleman Limousin Ranch, Charlo, Mont., exhibited the grand champion pen of Limousin bulls. The champion pen included February-born bulls. They combined for an average weight of 1,183 pounds with an average weight per day of age of 3.65. All pen bulls were ultrasound scanned at check-in time. This champion pen had average actual scan data of 16.16 ribeye area, 2.50 %IMF, and 0.21 back fat.

The reserve pen of Limousin bulls were 2016 September-born and had an average weight of 1,522 pounds, posting an average weight per day of age of 3.13 pounds per day. Their ultrasound scan data was as follows: 21.22 ribeye area, 3.01 %IMF, and 0.24 back fat. They were exhibited by J Yorga Farms Ltd., Flintoft, SK.

The people’s choice champion Limousin pen went to Coleman Limousin Ranch, Charlo, Mont.

Bruce Lawrence, Anton, Texas, exhibited the grand champion pen of Lim-Flex bulls. The 2016 September-born pen had an average weight of 1,522 pounds with a 3.12 average weight per day of age. Their ultrasound scan data averaged 20.67 ribeye area, 4.24 %IMF, and 0.34 back fat.

The reserve champion pen of Lim-Flex bulls was exhibited by Magness Land & Cattle, Platteville, Colo. The February-born pen had an average weight of 1,268 pounds with a 3.82 average weight per day of age. Their average ultrasound scan data was 15.65 ribeye area, .42%IMF, and 3.73 back fat.

Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., won the people’s choice champion Lim-Flex pen award.

In the carload show, Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., claimed champion carload. These 2017 January-, February-, March- and April-bulls had an average weight of 1,253 with a 3.84 weight per day of age on show day. Their average actual ultrasound data was as follows: 15.74 ribeye, .30 %IMF, and 3.55 back fat.

The reserve champion carload was exhibited by Magness Land and Cattle. Their pen of 2016 March- and April-born bulls weighed 1,979 pounds posting a weight per day of age of 3.01 pounds per day. The bulls combined for the following ultrasound data: 19.75 ribeye area, .43 %IMF, and 4.83 back fat.

The people’s choice champion Limousin carload went to Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo.
