The Limousin and Lim-Flex Pen and Carload Show capped off the Limousin activities at the 2017 National Western Stock Show. This year’s show saw 18 pens and six carloads exhibited on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Donnie Robertson, Yukon, Okla., Don McLennan, Byers, Colo., and Blake Bloomberg, Stillwater, Okla., teamed up to evaluate the bulls.
ROM’N Limousin, Arlington, S.D., exhibited the grand champion pen of Limousin bulls. The champion pen included March-born bulls. They combined for an average weight of 1,093 pounds with an average weight per day of age of 3.56. All pen bulls were ultrasound scanned at check-in time. This champion pen had average actual scan data of 17.55 ribeye area, 2.78 %IMF, and 0.25 back fat.
The reserve pen of Limousin bulls were February-born and had an average weight of 1,195 pounds, posting an average weight per day of age of 3.68 pounds per day. Their ultrasound scan data was as follows: 16.53 ribeye area, 3.15 %IMF, and 0.23 back fat. They were exhibited by Coleman Limousin Ranch, Charlo, Mont.
The people’s choice champion Limousin pen went to ROM’N Limousin, Arlington, S.D.
Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., exhibited the grand champion pen of Lim-Flex bulls. The January-born pen had an average weight of 1,358 pounds with a 3.67 average weight per day of age. Their ultrasound scan data averaged 18.65 ribeye area, 4.10 %IMF, and 0.40 back fat.
The reserve champion pen of Lim-Flex bulls was exhibited by Bruce Lawrence, Anton, Texas. The April-born pen had an average weight of 1,053 pounds with a 3.86 average weight per day of age. Their average ultrasound scan data was 16.41 ribeye area, 3.21 %IMF, and 0.28 back fat.
Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., won the people’s choice champion Lim-Flex pen award.
In the carload show, Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., claimed champion carload. These 2015 January-, February- and March-born bulls had an average weight of 1,986 with a 2.89 weight per day of age on show day. Their average actual ultrasound data was as follows: 22.14 ribeye, 4.55 %IMF, and 0.45 back fat.
The reserve champion carload was exhibited by Magness Land and Cattle. Their pen of 2016 January-, February- and March-born bulls weighed 1,353 pounds posting a weight per day of age of 3.83 pounds per day. The bulls combined for the following ultrasound data: 18.19 ribeye area, 3.57 %IMF, and 0.38 back fat.
The people’s choice champion Limousin carload went to Symens Bros Limousin, Amherst, S.D.
