Lim-Flex Hybrid

The Lim-Flex® Hybrid

Utilize the Limousin x Angus or Red Angus hybrid to gain economic advantages on your bottom-line. The Lim-Flex® hybrid is likely the best kept secret in the cattle industry to enable the benefits of heterosis to accelerate genetic progress on economically relevant traits that impact your profitability. Benefits include the following:

Moderate cow size & industry leading Docility. NALF was the first cattle breed association to develop a docility EPD over 25 years ago. This has enabled Limousin breeders to mate, select and supply genetics that have superior docility in today’s cattle business.

Lim-Flex progeny are one of the few continental based hybrids when mated into Angus cows, that can result in black hided progeny that can qualify for CAB specs increasing their value in both the current feeder cattle market and resulting additional packing house premiums.

On recent NALRF/SDSU research in 2024, at the feedyard and packing plant, Lim-Flex® cattle excel over their straight English counterparts in dry matter conversions (feed efficiency), superior yield grades (less YG 4&5’s) while achieving similar percentages of Prime and upper 2/3 Choice cattle as compared to their straight English counterparts.

“Using a Continental breed such as Limousin or Lim-Flex on a British-based cow herd gives you the best of both worlds — the maximum combination of a balance between gain, feed efficiency and carcass quality.”

Several black cows with green ear tags eat feed from a trough in a row at a farm or feedlot, with sunlight highlighting their faces and the feed.

Red meat yield is also improved with this hybrid given Limousin’s inherent advantages in REA, overall muscle and resulting cutability. For commercial producers looking to quickly improve upon total red meat yield while maintaining quality grade which increases the value of their feeder cattle offering to the feedyard industry, the Lim-Flex® hybrid is definitely the direction to go!
